A great Holiday review from our Parlor Guest, Peggy!

We had a great evening last night. Union Square is gorgeous at Christmas time and it's all very festive around the City at Christmas, and right across the street is one of our favorite restaurants-all very classic San Francisco with all the trims. The service, the menu and the vibe-all great.

The Magic Show at the Chancellor Hotel has the feeling of old San Francisco, given the hotel opened for the World's Fair in 1915, that is of course what you can feel when you walk in the door. Nice and friendly service at Luques in the Main Lobby, very hospitable so we took our Irish Coffees into we were seated by Walt Anthony and his assistant, both in the attire of the early 1900's.

The presentation of the magic was seamless and gracious and I still don't know, couldn't see why the table lifted 2 feet off the floor, or why the ropes joined, were broken and then were one. Really I was 3 feet away and kept my eyes on it all and could see nothing that would indicate Walt "did" anything to have that happen.

Just have no idea how he does those things, dates brought up by a guest showing up on a slate in the presentation by Walt, etc. But what really was captivating was the history he presented of some eccentric San Franciscans that I was not fully aware of. Emperor Norton, Alma Spreckels and Gertrude Atherton-among others. Scandals and outrageous socialites that I never had a clear understanding of until their stories were given laced through the performance by Walt.

It really provoked a depth of understanding about San Francisco and yes, there was magic. There was spirit and it was an excellent evening in all ways.
