1869 San Francisco and the Silver Rush claims to Fame!

Hear our newest magical tale at the San Francisco Magic Parlor unfold this January!

What do the Old San Francisco Mint, the Cable Car, the discovery of Silver, the Transcontinental Railroad, and Nob Hill have in common?

This photo depicts the 1869 Celebration at the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in downtown San Francisco.

Starting with the Comstock Lode Silver Strike, leading to the "Big Four’s" Central Pacific Railroad connecting to the coast-to-coast rail lines, Mark Hopkins, Leland Stanford, Charles Crocker, and Collis Huntington because ridiculously wealthy and built a kingdom on Nob Hill.

Welcome to magical Union Square!

It’s an honor and thrill for the Parlor to be part of the San Francisco Union Square community… our city’s beloved and historic square is the hub of fashion, dining, entertainment, and San Francisco’s classy if quirky lifestyle.

It’s great to be a contributor to the hustle and bustle and share the area with so many other merchants and visitors. You can see the San Francisco Magic Parlor’s sign (hanging from the Chancellor Hotel awning) right from the Square welcoming guests from all over the world.

When you get into town, stroll around the square, visit the shops, park yourself in a cafĂ©, sip some good coffee… and drink in the energy and ambiance of our Union Square in the very heart of town. And, oh yeah, when the sun sets spend a special evening with us at the San Francisco Magic Parlor theatre too!

If you ask nicely… we’ll even tell you a fascinating magical story or two about the lovely lady who stands high on her granite pedestal watching the city come and go.

Year of 2014

We’re about to enter the New Year of 2014

This fresh year we must all use our magic
with more serious intent.
Out in the world–
where the Magic is sorely needed.

I know you bring the Magic with you,
In your minds and in your hearts.
At our Magic Parlor–
you grant me the gift of giving it form.

Do me the honor of claiming 2014’s
Magic as your own?
To brighten the lives around you.

Magically, your host, Walt

At Great Dickens Christmas Fair

Even on my Sunday off from the San Francisco Magic Parlor…
I find myself in a 19th century costume for the Great Dickens Christmas Fair!

What a nostalgic and marvelous trip back in time it was.

Happy Holidays to all, and may we be blessed each and every one!

Uri and Walt / Walt and Uri…

U.K. journalist Iris Mansour visited San Francisco carrying a family souvenir. It was a spoon bent for her mom, in the 1980’s by infamous psychic Uri Geller, autographed and dated by Uri. Her question: “Does anyone have this power today?”

The fascinating Iris met me in the lounge of the Chancellor Hotel to tell her story. Could I paranormally unbend her spoon? Why, I asked, would anyone want to ruin a coveted family heirloom? But, I knew I could create a companion piece to keep the Geller spoon company.

Iris dug a U.S. Quarter out of her purse and held the coin between her palms. I placed one of my hands a few inches over, and one under, her tightly closed hands. She felt some warmth, then more, then even heat!

She dropped her very own coin on the granite table! It was bent into a half moon… like her spoon! She was agog, amazed, startled, and pleased to have experienced mind-over-matter first hand (in her own hand) and told me the coin would have an honored place in the family curio cabinet next to the prized spoon. Thanks for the opportunity Iris!
